Dark marking PERMAblack
A rich blackening of the surface of metals using the CEPHEUS ultrashort pulse laser and our unique PERMAblack process. The markings created with this laser appear deep black and that, unlike annealing colors, regardless of the viewing angle.
Using our unique PERMAblack® process, we achieve a rich blackening of the surface with very little heat influence on the material.
This so-called "Black Marking" process creates nanostructural changes on the surface of the metal in which the incident light is absorbed. As a result, the marking is consistently black regardless of the viewing angle and behaves stably even under strong light irradiation.
This application is suitable for precise marking on numerous metals such as stainless steel and aluminum. A high-contrast, abrasion-resistant marking is also produced on anodized aluminum without destroying the anodized layer. Properties of the aluminum, such as its corrosion resistance and surface structure, thus remain intact.
The deep black PERMAblack® marking remains permanently legible even without post-treatment, making the process suitable for a wide range of applications. In addition, this process is also resistant to passivation and cleaning in autoclaves, making it ideal for UDI-compliant marking of surgical instruments or implants.
